The following is a summary:
A school in which everyone knows and understands what good learning is…
Our successes:
Learning is at the very heart of Petersfield C of E Aided Primary School and the academic results are there for all to see - placing the school among the top 5% in the country.
Staff work hard to promote supportive learning, and are enthusiastic in ensuring pupils benefit from a variety of exciting learning opportunities. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for aspects of their work from the earliest times.
The Local Authority Inspectorate judged us performing very well in enriching all aspects of school life. “The school is a welcoming and inclusive place in which the pupil voice is valued and the Christian ethos is emphasised.”
Petersfield has a talented and largely stable teaching and support staff, headed by experienced Headteacher, Mrs Amanda Tuck, and Deputy Head, Mrs Laura Penrose.
The way forward:
Our School Development Plan sets out key agreed priorities. For the coming 12 months these are:
· Maintain and improve achievements and standards in Foundation stage and both Key Stages.
· Enrich our taught curriculum in partnership with the local community.
· Develop our Healthy Lifestyles work and Extended Schools provision.
· Work to achieve the ICT Mark, Basic Skills Quality Mark and Eco-School status, and to renew our British Council International School Award.
No square pegs, no round holes
We plan for a school in which it’s “OK to ask”, “OK to get it wrong” and in which “Having a go” and Trying it out” is good. We want to help all our pupils, whatever their ability, to become self-confident, articulate, and thoughtful learners who know about their learning, and reflect on how they learn best.
How do we make sure every child gets teaching to meet his or her individual needs?
· Rigorous assessment and planning by teachers.
· Ensuring that pupils with special educational needs are identified early and that in partnership with parents an individual educational plan is drawn up. Evidence of the success of our SEN provision is clear in national test results at the end of key stages.
· Encouraging pupils with particular talents to pursue them. The development of thinking skills is an ongoing focus; providing more extension opportunities for the academically gifted is an identified priority.
· Allowing the learning culture of our school to evolve still further.
Community
We value a close working partnership with parents, appreciate our lively Parent Teacher Association and welcome members of our local village and church groups to school.
What our pupils have told us…
Annual anonymous pupil questionnaires and feedback from the School Council suggests:
· Pupils enjoy their time in school.
· They feel they are working in a safe and improved environment, and are pleased with the newly refurbished playground.
· They believe all staff are caring and they know where to turn if they need to talk to someone.
· School Council wish to see further environmental improvements and have a project of refurbishment in hand, utilising some of their own funding and some from the PTA.
Ofsted
In response to Ofsted we have increased our ICT capacity, with further improvemnts still to come. As a British Council International School, we are increasing our pupils’ awareness of our place in the world community.Through partner schools we are developing pupils’ understanding of multi-cultural Britain. We are proud of high levels of achievement within and at the end of key stages, reflecting good quality teaching and learning. Revised assessment procedures are now enabling us to use ICT effectively to track pupil progress, set challenging targets and tailor support. We have built a strong team of experienced subject leaders, ensuring consistent and broad-ranging curriculum enrichment throughout.
